On the Réunion island, there are lovely small beings called “margouillat”. I didn’t find any English translation for it, it’s a kind of lizard, or gecko. They are present in many houses here, and of course, at my place too. I thus have a small yellow inhabitant at home. I think margouillats are cute, but I don’t like when they are wandering around me while I’m sleeping. I don’t really bear the idea of something crawling on me while I’m “to the dreams’ country”.
At home, the ceiling and the walls are white, and when I saw my flatmate for the first time (my flatmate is the margouillat, it doesn’t pay the rent, I’m too nice) on the ceiling, I was obsessed by its presence. We saw nothing but it. I put the light on each minute in order to check that it was not to close to me, and above all, that it stayed on the ceiling. I let you imagine how well I slept the first nights… On top of that, they are noisy, they produce a sound like a kind of snapping or clucking.
Then, I started to feel confident, I was told that margouillats are inoffensive and that they stay on the ceiling. But, one night, I felt a strange substance falling on my hand. I woke up at top speed, opened the light, and what did I saw just above my bed on the ceiling ? A margouillat, of course ! Erk, this one had just defecated on me ! I was disgusted. On top of that, the margouillats do not stay all the time on the ceiling, I saw one on the floor (and my mattress is directly on the floor).
Nevertheless, little by little, I felt more confident and I got used to the presence of a margouillat at home. I’m not disturbed anymore. I even speak to it sometimes. We are living in peace together… ;o)
Lately, Adeline told me she found two dead margouillats in her cereals’ box. She kept them in a jar, that crazy girl. Until her flatmates asked her to get rid of them. Anyway I don’t care, I put all my food in plastic bags, because if not, hundreds of ants come magically.
