Il y a environ quinze jours, je me suis levée à 5 heures du matin pour aller admirer la vue sur le Cirque de Mafate, depuis le piton Maïdo. Et ça en valait vraiment la peine. La vue était incroyable. Dommage, mes photographies sont toutes ratées, il faut croire que la lumière n'était pas appropriée à mon appareil. Pourtant, croyez-moi, c'était impressionnant. Quand j'ai vu le paysage, j'en ai eu le souffle coupé, au sens propre. J'étais vraiment émue par le relief, la lumière, le calme (et quel calme !)... Il y avait plusieurs personnes, mais aucune d'entre elles ne parlait. Personne n'osait rompre la quiétude de ce spectacle fascinant.
ça fait vraiment partie des paysages dont je me souviendrai.
About two weeks ago, I got up at five in the morning in order to go to see the sunrise, to the Maïdo. It was worth to get up. Really. We had a wonderful view on the Mafate Circus. Unfortunately, all my pictures are bad, the light was not appropriated to my camera. That's a shame, it was so fantastic ! I was very moved. When I arrived, approaching next to the chasm, I was gasped. You'll think it's ridiculous and maybe you'll laugh at me, but yes, I had to refrain me in order not to cry, because of emotion (yes I'm very emotive, too much, but this is not the point). The relief, the light, silence, the tranquillity... There were some people, but nobody was speaking, and when someone dared to, it was very softly, in order not to trouble the place.
This will be a landscape I'll remember.

La vue sur le Cirque de Mafate depuis le Piton Maïdo

Mafate c'est timbré !
Le week-end du 29 et 30 mars, direction le cirque de Mafate, en passant par le col des bœufs, pour rejoindre le village de La Nouvelle. Sur place, l’île de la Réunion faisait la promotion de sa candidature au patrimoine de l’Unesco. De plus, Mafate a été « timbré », à savoir, un timbre du cirque de Mafate est sorti. Beaucoup de philatélistes étaient sur place, pour avoir le tampon de Mafate ! A cette occasion se déroulaient beaucoup d’animations et de concerts à La Nouvelle. Nous avons campé sur place pour y assister.
The 29th and 30th March, we went to the Mafate Circus, to go to the village called “La Nouvelle”. There, the Réunion Island was promoting its application for the Unesco World Heritage Site. Furthermore, a stamp of Mafate has been created, and many philatelists were there because it was the first edition, stamped in the Mafate Circus.
Because of these events, there were many entertainments and concerts. We slept in Mafate in order to enjoy the evening.

Le village est inaccessible par la route, étant donné qu’il n’y en a pas. Les habitants se font livrer leur nourriture par hélicoptère. D’ailleurs, il y a un sacré trafic !
The village can not be reached using roads, because, rightly, there are no roads. Helicopters are used in order to supply the population with food and other stuffs. Because of that, there were many helicopters coming all day long.
Nous avons campé sur place. Etant donné les évènements, il y avait du monde. Pendant la nuit, certains ont bien picolé... Le rhum et la Dodo locale, ça y allait ! A un moment, un abruti s’est mis à vomir contre notre tente, juste à côté ! Pendant deux heures, il vomissait par saccades, tout près, si près que je l’entendais respirer… J’étais dégoûtée ! Et puis, j’avais froid, il faisait très humide. Mais bon, mis à part la nuit, j'ai passé un très bon moment à Mafate.
We slept in tents. Because of the events, there were many people. During the night, some of them drank a lot… Rum and Dodo !
During the night, a stupid guy came and vomitted just next to our tent! During two hours, he vomited by jerk, and he was so close, I heard him breath just on the other side of the canvas. I was so disgusted! I was also feeling cold (yes it’s possible, even here!), because it was very damp. But except during the night, I had a great time in Mafate.

Je retournerai à Mafate pour le découvrir d’une autre façon : en pleine nature, dans le silence… Je passerai par un autre chemin, pour changer.
I will come back in Mafate, in order to use other paths to go there, and in order to enjoy nature and silence.
